How good are your survival skills?

Scenario As you sail through the Southern Pacific Ocean a fire starts You and your team have rented a yacht. As you sail through the Southern Pacific Ocean a fire starts and much of the yacht and its contents are destroyed. The yacht is slowly sinking. Your location is unclear because vital navigational and radio equipment has been damaged. You have managed to save three boxes of matches, 3 £50 notes and a few other items Talk with the other group members and decide which items are most important

a mirror

a mosquito net

a case of army rations

maps of the Pacific Ocean

can of petrol

a small transistor radio

plastic sheeting

shark repellent

2 boxes of chocolate bars

a fishing kit

Useful language: I think we must/should/ have to/can/could/may…

1. The mirror is critical for signalling 2. The petrol is critical for signalling.- the mixture will float on water and could be ignited with one of the 100 RON notes and a match. 3. One case of army rations-it will the basic food you need to survive 4. Plastic sheeting can be used to collect rain water 5. 2 boxes of chocolate bars could be your reserve food supply (Why did you have so much chocolate with you????) 6. Fishing kit- there is no guarantee you will catch any fish. 7. Shark repellent - enough said! 8. The small transistor radio is useless because it’s broken; you are out of range anyway! 9. The maps of the Atlantic Ocean will be useless without any navigation equipment 10. The mosquito net is useless-there are NO mosquitoes in the middle of the ocean!
