1 Survival in our Universe!

2 Home, Sweet, Home What do you really know about the Earth and what it provides you? It is a ball of stone and metal covered with water, rocks, and dirt. It has a fluid core of iron. 70% of it is covered with water. It has an atmosphere of 80% N , 20% O, and small amounts of argon, CO2, and water vapor.

3 Stranded at 30 degrees latitude, 20 degrees longitude….
You crash-land 300 miles from the rendezvous point, you and your crew survive but only 16 items are left intact. You can only take 10 with you-which are most important and why?

4 Stranded! You are in a spacecraft traveling to rendezvous with your mother ship on the light side of the moon! You crash-land 300 miles from the rendezvous point, you and your crew survive but only 16 items are left intact. You can only take 10 with you-which are most important and why?

5 What is no longer of any real use?
Pressure suit Two 100 pound tanks of oxygen 5 gallons water Stellar map Food concentrate Solar-Powered FM receiver 50 ft nylon rope First Aid kit Parachute silk Pistols What is no longer of any real use? Signal flares Dehydrated milk Blanket Magnetic compass Box of matches Mosquito repellent

6 How does the Earth’s gravity and the moon’s gravity AND the Sun’s gravity, compare to the gravitational force of other planets?

7

8 Can you find your “Center of Gravity?”
If everything were weightless, balance would be no problem. In order to balance, objects must be in danger of falling; in order to fall, there must be gravity to give them weight! On the moon, an object will have the same mass, but a different weight. It’s gravity is 1/6 that of Earth. Would it be easier to balance an object there?
