Reading with your Child Reading at home with your child is key in helping your child to progress. When reading with your child, please ask lots of questions to check their understanding. Talk about what may happen next, what has already happened and why it has happened. Discuss the characters, their feelings and encourage your child to have their own opinions about the story. Encourage your child to predict what may happen next, or what could have been changed in the story (page 7 in reading diary). Please record in the diary. Any information about how your child found the book, any sounds or words that they needed help with, or what they enjoyed about the book would be great. However, simply signing the diary will also be fine!

Reading Books Your child will have the opportunity to change their book daily. Before changing their books, we will often ask them questions about the story to assess their understanding of what they have read. Reading Champions- Children will receive one stamp if they have read 4 time from Friday to the following Thursday. Once they have got 10 stamps, they will receive a free book.

Phonics Books We will add a new page to your child’s phonics book each Friday. This will recap the sounds that they have been focussing on in their phonics groups that week. The tasks will often include reading and writing, and children can record any work in their yellow book.

Busy Ants Maths Homework Sheet At the beginning of every Maths unit, we will send home a newsletter. This tends to be every 3 weeks. This gives you an overview of what we will be doing in class, and then suggestions of activities that you could do at home with your child. They offer appropriate questions to ask in order to fully extend your child’s learning. It would be great if you could add photographs of your child completing some of the suggested tasks to Tapestry.

Homework Grid

We will send a homework grid home at the beginning of every term. The tasks are designed to recap key skills related to our learning that term, whilst also having a fun link to our topic. Please choose one to complete over the term, and either send in the finished product or photographs once finished, for us to share!
