The largest city in Australia is Sydney (4.3 million people), Melbourne (3.8 million) and Brisbane (about 2 million),Perth (1.5 million people.) аnd Adelaide (1.1 million people). The capital is Canberra.

Sydney It is the state capital of New South Wales, the largest and most cosmopolitan city in Australia. Population is 4.3 million people. Several times it is confessed "the best city in the world" according to surveys of world travel companies. However, the main attraction of the city is the famous bridge over the bay of Port Jackson. It connects the southern and northern parts of the city. Sydney Harbour Bridge is really amazing engineering structure. It is one of the world's longest bridge.

In Sydney, there is another remarkable building - the Sydney Opera House. This is a fantastic group of huge sails and set of giant white sea shells, nested one inside the other. The theater was built in 1973 and immediately became a symbol of the country. Other major attractions are the Tower with its revolving restaurant, the zoo, Sydney Aquarium. There are a lot of various cafes and restaurants, cinemas, nightclubs. The best beaches of the city are Bondi and Manly.

Melbourne It is the capital of the state Victoria, cultural and financial center of the country. Population is about 3.8 million. In 1992 by the decision of the Washington Center for Population Melbourne was named "the most livable city in the world.” In Melbourne you can see the National Gallery of Victoria, Royal Botanic Gardens. Every year there are dozens of arts festivals and other cultural events.

Brisbane Brisbane was founded in 1824. Population is about 2 million people. The capital of the state is Queensland, a major industrial and financial center. The city is called "the most lived-in" in Australia. Accommodation in Brisbane is less expensive than in other major cities of the country. The town is small, so at any point it can be reached by bike. Brisbane is in the area of soft subtropical climate, so some houses do not have central heating. The average summer temperature is 27 degrees and in the winter it is 22 degrees. Gold Coast is Australian most popular holiday.

Perth It is a young and modern city, lying on the banks of the Swan River, a major industrial center and the capital of Western Australia. Population is 1.5 million people. Here are not only the University of Western Australia, included in the eight top universities, but also many other equally prestigious universities, specialized colleges, laboratories and research centers. The Museum of Western Australia, has an exposition devoted to the history and life of the state. In the neighborhood you can find the world's largest deposit of gold and nickel and diamond mines in Kimberley. This is where you can see the famous Australian landscapes - red earth, rocks, trees and blue sky.

Canberra Canberra is the capital of Australia. In the language of the aboriginal words the meaning of this word is “a meeting place". The city is located at the foot of the mountains. Canberra is the capital of the country, where all the main political structures of Australia are situated. Canberra is not near the sea, in contrast to other major cities in the country. So people have a quiet and tranquil rhythm of their life. Just two hours drive from Canberra famous Australian beaches, snow-capped mountains and the ski resort are situated .
