Contributing to the WCARC Website

We Will Cover Website Format Change Types of User Access Register for Login Create a New Article One of the challenges of having a website it keeping up current. A little detail about the mechanics of our website for those of you who have some knowledge about websites. When we redesigned out site we choose a platform that would enable club members to keep the site up to-date. Think of the platform as the type filing cabinet that contains files that are on the website. There are several different platforms such as a HTML or coded platform were you have to know how to write code to be able to edit the website or a CMS (Content Management System) platform were you do not need to know HTML coding to build the website. We choice the CMS platform, so that you, our members can help us maintain the website. There are several different types of CMS platforms available… WordPress, Drupal and Joomla. Joomla websites are very similar to WordPress websites when it comes to adding content. A benefit of a CMS platform is that you can assign user access to limit the possibility of anyone accidently messing up the website design. The 3 levels of user access that would usually be given are: Author – this is someone who can create and edit their own articles Editor – can create and edit their own articles as well as articles written by others Publisher – can create, edit and publish articles written by anyone Edit an Article Upload .pdf File(s)

User Access Creating an account: 1) Go to WCARC.Com 2) Click on the Member Area tab 3) In the Login Form box click on Create an account 4) Complete the User Registration form 5) Press Register to submit your request 6) Webmaster will complete setup and email you. 7) Validate your email address 8) Login to WCARC website

Create An Article To create an article you login to the WCARC.com website On the Control Panel click on New Article

Create An Article In the Articles: New page Enter the title of your article Then type in your article as you would if using your favorite word processor.

Create An Article Use the tool bar to add photos and hyperlinks into your article

Create An Article Hyperlink Spell check Photo Change the font size to 12 to keep the font consistent in the website. This set of tools work like those in a word processor… Bold, Italics, Underline, Strick through, Justification Photo

Create An Article To add a hyperlink in the article: Highlight the words you want to attach the hyperlink too Click on the hyperlink icon Complete the link window that appears Highlight the text you want to use for the hyperlink and click on the hyperlink icon.

Create An Article Outside source Enteral source Open in new window If you are linking to an outside source then simply add the website address (URL) in the top If you are linking to another article on our website complete the Links box Make sure you select open in new window as the target. Click OK The Box will disappear and the words you had highlighted should be a different color (blue). Open in new window

Create An Article To add a photo to the article: Highlight the words you want to attach the hyperlink too Click on the hyperlink icon Complete the link window that appears Place you curser where you want the photo to be placed and click on the photo icon.

Create An Article Upload file File to save photo in To insert a photo, place your curser where you want the photo to go then click on the insert photo icon. Click on the graphics folder to open it, because this is where you will upload your graphic too. Click on the upload icon Upload file File to save photo in

Create An Article You can either drag the photo from your hard drive into the window or click on browse and navigate to where you have the photo you want in the article saved on your computer.

Create Articles Your photo should appear in the Graphics folder with a picture in the details section of the Image Manager page. Make sure the file name is darkened Make sure the photo you want is shown in the details section You can resize the photo and determine how you want the photo aligned. Click on Insert

Create An Article Your photo should now be seen in your article. If you need to size your photo, click on the photo so that the photo is highlighted a box shows around it. Put your curser on a corner and drag it toward the middle of the photo to resize it to the desired size.

Create An Article Your article should now be in the Articles list. If you are an Author or Editor User you will need to email the Webmaster to let them know that the article is ready to be published.

Create An Article 1) Login to WCARC.com 2) From the Control Panel click on New Article 3) Enter Title of the New Article 4) Enter the New Article in the content tab 5) Use the tools on the Content tab to add pictures and hyperlinks to your article 6) If you a Author or Editor User contact the Webmaster about the article being ready to publish.

Edit An Article To edit an article you login to the WCARC.com website On the Control Panel click on Articles

Edit An Article Find your article in the Articles list and click on it the “blue” colored Title of your article. You will notice if you hoover over the name of the article a small box will appear saying Edit.

Create An Article Now you can edit your article. After you have made your changes

Edit an Article 1) Login to WCARC.com 2) From the Control Panel click on Articles 3) Click on the title of your Article 4) Edit your Article 5) Save and close the Article

Upload .pdf Files To upload a pdf file you login to the WCARC.com website On the Control Panel click on Media

Upload .pdf Files Scroll down through the Media Folder until you find the folder you need to place your pdf in. If you are going to upload the an instructional pdf or Elmer file for example… you would scroll down to find the Project_Files folder and click on it. Note that if you look in the detail view it will tell you which folder is highlighted and you can see what is already in the folder. Once you have the highlighted folder you want to add the file too click on the Upload button

Upload .pdf Files Click in the Browse box and a File upload window will open.

Upload .pdf Files Your file name is now listed next to the browse box If you have more than one file you can add them now other wise click the start upload button.

Upload .pdf Files Once your upload is complete you should see a Message stating that is complete and you can find your file in the list of files in the Project_Files

Upload .pdf Files 1) Login to WCARC.com 2) From the Control Panel click on Media 3) Click on the file where you want your .pdf to be stored 4) Click on Upload 5) Browse for a file or files you wish to upload from your computer 6) Click start Upload 7) Verify files Uploaded

If you would like to contribute to the website or maintain a section of the website please create an account. Examples: Leonor White could manage the WCARC picnic page. Bob Farmer could manage the newsletter page. Whoever does the Swapfest could manage the Swapfest page.
