Step One Use Size C Paper: 17” x 22” Between borders is 16” vertical and 19-1/2” horizontal

Step Two Determine the exterior dimensions of the house (length and width) Decide the actual size of the length and width using the ¼” = 1’ scale Does not include area for dimensions

Step Two - Answers Determine the exterior dimensions of the house (length and width) Width: 63” – 3” Length: 27’ – 4” Decide the actual size of the length and width using the ¼” = 1’ scale Width: 16 – 1/2” Length: 7 – 3/4”

Step Three Center the drawing Working Area Length: 19 – 1/2” Drawing Length: - 16 – 1/2” Answer: 3” Divide Answer By Two to Center: 1 – 1/2” Working Area Height: 16” Drawing Height: 7 – 3/4” Answer 8 – 1/4” Divide Answer By Two to Center: 4 – 1/8”

Step Three 4 – 1/8” above and below floor plan 1 – 1/2” to the right and left of floor plan Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Four Lay out all exterior walls 6” thick (measure inside previous lines) Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Five Layout all interior walls 4” thick (find center of walls and measure 2” on either side) Width of tub is 32” Wall with shower and tub is 2” Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Six Block out doors and windows Doors 3” from wall unless they are centered All windows 30” Entry Door: 3’ Sliding Door: 6’ (double) Garage, utility, kitchen and bedrooms: 2’-8” Bathrooms: 2’ – 4” Closet: 1’ - 6” Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Seven Draw all cabinets Base cabinets: 24” Upper cabinets: 12” Bath vanities: 22” Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Eight Draw all appliances and utilities Use house plan template Refrigerator: 36” x 30” Range: 30” x 27” Washer and Dryer: 30” x 30” Use house plan template Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Stop Nine Draw all plumbing fixtures, sinks and toilets Use house plan template Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Ten Draw fireplace 5’ wide with a 36” width opening 18” x 5’ hearth Use 0.5 mm 6H pencil to draw construction lines

Step Eleven Check your work Darken in all construction lines with 0.7 mm pencil Draw lines from top to bottom and from left to right (right handed) Draw lines from top to bottom and from right to left (left handed) Add all door and window floor plan symbols Add appliances and plumbing features

Step Twelve: Exterior Layout extension and dimension lines using 0.5mm 6H pencil

Step Twelve: Exterior Use 16 side of Architect’s Scale First line from exterior wall placed 1” from house Include dimensions from outside wall, CL windows, CL doors, CL interior walls, to outside wall

Step Twelve: Exterior Second line of dimensions placed 3/8” from first line of dimensions This row includes all dimensions from outside wall to CL of interior walls to outside wall

Step Twelve: Exterior Third line of dimensions placed 3/8” from second line of dimensions This last line is the overall dimension of the exterior, from outside wall to outside wall

Step Thirteen: Interior Typically a line of dimensions placed 3/8” away from an interior wall Dimensions include any interior wall (CL) to other interior features.

Step Fourteen: Darken extension and dimension lines using 0.3 mm pencil

Step Fifteen: Notes Draw guidelines and add dimensions, notes for appliances, room names using 0.5 mm pencil Dimensions should be centered above dimension line (1/16” above) Should read from bottom on horizontal lines Should read from right side of the sheet on vertical dimension lines 1/8” lettering with 1/16” space between lines of lettering.
