Germination Domination Planting Science Group Madison, Ryan, Max, and Seamus

OUR PROBLEM STATEMENT Our problem statement was: “How will temperature affect the germination rate of wheat seeds?”

OUR HYPOTHESIS Our hypothesis was… “Wheat seeds will grow faster in their regular temperature than in hotter temperature?”

OUR EXPERIMENT We had a total of 10 cups- five in the regular temperature (control), and five in the hotter temperature (independent) We had a total of 40 seeds- 20 in each group-4 in each cup We put the five independent group cups under a protective glass, used heat lamps to make a hotter temperature, and covered paper over a gap so the heat can get in the plants We also watered the independent group For the control group cups, we just put them near a window and watered them

Data Collected Average Height Legend Green: Experimental White: Control Average Height For Control… 1.32 inches/Average Height for Experimental…5.75 inches

Our Analysis The Experimental Group grew about 4 times faster than the control group The Experimental Group had a consistent growth rate, while the Control Group was fluctuating in height A total of 19 seeds germinated in the Control Group A total of 17 seeds germinated in the Experimental Group

Our Conclusion Based on the data that we gathered, our hypothesis was not entirely incorrect, being that more plants germinated in the control group than the experimental group, however, in the experimental group, the plants had a faster germination rate. If we were able to do this project again… we would water our plants the same amount of water each day. We would also try to get a hotter temperature in the experimental group to make more of a difference of both groups.
