Background : Each individual is concerned about own future through career, Career give the opportunity to expand the capacity through diversified experiences, Career is the vital for individual for success, Career possibility is regarded as the basis of choices of certain profession, Individual is more much concerned with with in job or off job career.

What is career ? All types of employment ranging from betterment of life through skill, professional capacity as well as competency, The profession which is being regarded as the means of livelihood for the entire working life of a person, It refers to changes or modifications in employment or profession during the foreseeable future,

Career indicates the individual expectation through the defined process and path. It is sequence of separate but related work activities that provide continuity, order and measuring to a person's life. Planning for the development of the profession valuable, respectable and worthy.

Characteristics : Selected field of livelihood, Inter related with succession Planning, Linked with personal capacity and expectation, Short-term, Medium term as well as long term prospective, Basis of professionalism, Means of motivation, Promoted through planning, path and goal.

Components of Career Organizational Development How individuals manage their careers with their with in and between organization, How organization structure the career progress of their members, it can also be tied in to succession planning with some organization.

Personal Development Total constellation of psychological, sociological, educational, physical, economic and chance factors that combine the influence the nature and significance of work in the total life span of any given individual.

Career Management : The combination of structured planning and the active management choice of one's own professional career, The outcome of successful career management are : Fulfillment of Personal Expectation, The balance between work and life of the individual, Achievement of pre determined goal, Financial security.

Career Planning : Career Planning is a subset of career management, The process of reassessing individual learning and development over a period of time, Designing and selecting the career that may meet the capacity of individual for the future, Career planning is the planning of individual career to promote professional capacity.

Basic Elements of Career Planning Self Assessment, Career Mission Statement Research and Evaluation Short term career plan, Long term career plan.

Areas of analysis when designing Career Planning: Life/work experience Aptitudes/ skills Interests Values Personality preferences

Importance of Career Planning Clear direction and road map for future, Opportunity to analyze individual capacity, Support for designing career goal, To develop the life as true, meaningful and purposive life, Motivation and Morale, Grooming the potentialities, Advancement in position and condition of the employee, etc.

Steps of Career Planning Knowing who you are Self Assessment, Personal Values, Personal Qualities, Interest, Needs

Assessing your present Situation A look at current profession or job, Job characteristics, What can you do from where you are now ? Setting your career goal Career Development, Planning Summary and action plan, Setting goals.

Gathering Information Getting started, Information, Interviews, Other sources of information,

Identify skill needs Skills, Skill list, Your present job, Strengths and weaknesses, Skill verification, Skill gaps and barriers, Summary of achievements.

Preparing an action plan What is your next step, Goals, Goal setting, Identifying barriers reaching your goals, Taking actions.

Nepalese Issues Unclear Career Path, Unequal Career opportunity in different group, Lack of Career planning among the employee, Merely consisted on promotion, Training for promotion or knowledge, Use of personal linkage for the career advancement, Limited scope for career development, Reluctance towards the career management.
