Geer Park Elementary Parallel and Series Circuits Part II

Simple Circuits Review

Simple Circuits Review

Parallel Circuits

Content Objective To show I can apply how electrical energy is transferred and changed through the use of a parallel circuit, I will build a parallel circuit using a battery holder, a battery, four wires, and two light bulbs.

Language Objective I can write to explain how energy is transferred and changed through the use of a parallel circuit in my science journal.

Parallel Circuits Lights are parallel to each other

Series Circuits

Content Objective To show I can apply how electrical energy is transferred and changed through the use of a series circuit, I will build a series circuit using a battery holder , a battery, three wires, and a light bulb.

Language Objective I can write to explain how energy is transferred and changed through the use of a series circuit in my science journal.

Series Circuits Lights are in series with each other.

Series Parallel Circuits

Content Objective To show I can apply how electrical energy is transferred and changed through the use of a series parallel circuit, I will build a series parallel circuit using two battery holders , two batteries, six wires, and three light bulbs.

Language Objective I can write to explain how energy is transferred and changed through the use of a series parallel circuit using my science notebook.

Series – Parallel Circuits Some lights are in series and some are in parallel with each other.

Circuits Review

Circuits Review Example Example Example Example Simple Circuit Series Circuit Parallel Circuit Series – Parallel Circuit Example Example Example Example

Draw an illustration for each circuit Simple Circuit Series Circuit Parallel Circuit Series – Parallel Circuit Example Example Example Example

Label each circuit Example Example Example Example Circuit 1 Circuit 2

Circuits Review What is similar in each circuit? What is different in each circuit?

Circuit Review Which one is the simple circuit? Which one is the parallel? Which one is the series circuit?

Switched Circuits

Content Objective To show I can apply how electrical energy is transferred and changed through the use of a parallel series circuit, I will build a switched circuit using a battery holder , a battery, 5 wires, a light bulb and aluminum foil.

Language Objective I can write to explain how energy is controlled through the use of a switched circuit using my science notebook.

Switched Circuits Switches are used to open or close a circuit and control the flow of electrons. When the circuit is closed, the electrons flow and the bulbs light. When the circuit is open, electrons do not flow and the bulbs do not light.

Switched Circuits Which circuits are open and which circuits are closed?

Switched Circuits Make a simple switch from paper clips or foil.
