Because of Winn-Dixie By: Kate DiCamillo

Summary The summer India Opal Buloni and her father, the preacher, moved to Naomi, Florida, Opal meets a new friend. Not just any friend, but family. She comes out of the supermarket with a dog, a big, wet, suffering dog. Opal names the dog Winn-Dixie, after the supermarket were she finds him. Because of him, Opals father tells 10 stories about Opals mom who passed away. Together they meet the local librarian, Miss Franny Block, Otis, and Gloria Dump. That summer, Opal realizes to forget and forgive. With a little help from Winn-Dixie, Opal will learn that what she has found, can change her life forever.

Rating I think this book was a very good book because the author put in a lot of descriptive words and made me want to keep reading. I think it was a very interesting story and had a lot of emotion. I also like how at the end of each chapter, the author left you wondering what will happen next. These are some reasons why I think this was a very good book.

About the author Kate DiCamillo was born on March 25th 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Clermont Florida. She earned her college degree in English at the university of Florida. She writes both children and adult stories. FUN FACTS: Kate is short Kate is loud Kate hates cooking

About the characters India Opal Buloni is a sweet girl who just moved to Florida. She doesn’t have many friends. One day though she meets a dog named Winn- Dixie, they become really close. Winn-Dixie is a dog named after a supermarket. Winn-Dixie is an old dog, his fur is brown and he is tall. He becomes very close to Opal. The father of Opal is a preacher, He preaches at The Open Arms Baptist Church of Naomi. He is a good preacher and a nice man. He is a single parent because Opal mother (his wife) passed away.
