TCEC <Electronic Commerce> 1999 In 1999 there was much interest on e-Commerce, so we have organized some workshops and formed a focused interest group in this area. 2001 The Task Force on EC (TFEC) was proposed to the IEEE CS in early 2001. The IEEE TFEC was approved and started charter in May 2001. 2003 Technical Committee on E-Commerce was approved on 2003 2010 Name Change from “Technical Committee on E-Commerce” to “Technical Committee on Business Informatics and Systems” was approved on 2010 May 4-5, 2011 TAC Workshop 2

TCBIS <Business Informatics and Systems> Technology on e-Commerce In the past decade, e-commerce and enterprise computing has been successfully established as a feasible, profitable, and continually evolving technology. Although many people think of e-commerce as “online shopping”, the technology and its application are now much broader and encompass most business operations in modern enterprises. There is a growing engineering community focusing on technical and algorithmic issues on the business process. Business Informatics Business Informatics takes an proactive role in aligning business objectives, business processes and IT. The core element of business informatics is a methodological approach for describing, explaining, predicting, and designing information and communication models, architectures, and systems for the business environment. Business Informatics and Systems Business informatics is a discipline combining information technology (IT), informatics and management concepts. The BI discipline is an established, successful academic discipline including bachelor, master and diploma programs in Europe, including Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands, etc. May 4-5, 2011 TAC Workshop 3

Summary <Business Informatics and Systems> Business Informatics takes a systematic and analytic approach in aligning business intelligence, information science, and computer engineering into an engineering science for businesses. The core element of business informatics is a methodological approach for describing, explaining, predicting, and designing information and communication models, architectures, and systems for the business environment. Business informatics is a discipline combining several fields of study, including information technology (IT), informatics, and management, to develop the new scientific foundation for business engineering. The Technical Committee on Business Informatics and Systems (TCBIS) is formerly known as Technical Committee on Electronic Commerce (TCEC). May 4-5, 2011 TAC Workshop 8
