5 COMPETITIVENESS OF POLISH T&C SECTOR IN THE UE BACKGROUND Federation of Apparel & Textiles Industry Employers Krakow 2015 STATISTICS 2013: NUMBER OF T&C COMPANIES in 28 EU countries amounted 174 139. Poland with 7.5% share took 2nd place after Italy - 21%. EMPLOYMENT in the 28 EU countries was 1 639 2012 people. Poland occupied 3rd position with 5.9% share after Italy - 16% and Romania - 7.4%. INVESTMENTS of 28 EU countries in T&C amounted ca 3 552 000 000 EUR. Poland with the participation of 2.5% took 6th position after Italy - 14.6%, Germany - 6.8%, France - 5.9%, Spain - 3.3%, UK - 2.9%. TURNOVER of 28 EU countries in T&C amounted ca 143 971 700 500 EUR. Poland with the participation of 2.3% took 8th place after Italy - 25.8%, Germany - 10.5%, France - 7, 8%, Spain - 4.8%, UK - 4.7%, Portugal - 3.2% and 2.7%, Belgium – 2.7%. Source: EURATEX

7 INTELLIGENT SPECIALIZATIONS TO ACCELERATE INNOVATION Federation of Apparel & Textiles Industry Employers Krakow 2015 Polish Ministry of Economy established 19 National Smart Specializations. Polish T&C sector is a part of two National Smart Specializations:  Multifunctional materials and composites with advanced features including nanoprocesses;  Intelligent Creative Technologies, which are focus on design in the wide sense.

8 QUALITY & INNOVATION = COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE Federation of Apparel & Textiles Industry Employers Krakow 2015 POLISH T&C sector bet on innovation and use of support instruments available within the research and development programs to improve quality and competitiveness. The impact of the EU market also triggered ambitions to modernize of production and adapting to new market needs and opportunities. The most important element of this process is to transform the T&C industries into innovative fashion companies based on knowledge, offering modern and fresh design and using innovative technologies but …such a companies is more and more, mainly in the textile industry and their producing technical textiles, which have become a Polish specialty in the global market - this production is one of the fastest growing and most innovative branch. In 2014 investment expenditures increased ca 94% compared to 2013.

9 INNOTEXTILE Federation of Apparel & Textiles Industry Employers Krakow 2015 Innovation is a key concept for companies who apply for EU funds for 2014-2020. European funds at the disposal of Poland for the next six years is 82,5 billion EUR and 8,61 billion of this amount will be used for OP Intelligent Development, which aims to support the implementation of innovative research and development projects. This program is an opportunity for Polish companies cooperating with research institutions and universities to transform ideas into innovative products, technologies or services. The National Centre for Research and Development (NCBiR) invited entities associating representatives of the sector to present the offer for the feasibility study. Feasibility study "INNOTEXTILE" for the textile sector was developed at the end of 2014.

10 INNOTEXTILE Federation of Apparel & Textiles Industry Employers Krakow 2015 INNOTEXTILE concerns the seven areas of research, which also fit in with,,7 Flagships”. 1.Sustainable textile raw materials ‐ alternative natural fibres, bio‐polymers & recycling. 2. From wet to dry ‐ towards more flexible, sustainable and energy‐efficient textile processing technologies. 3. Efficient manufacturing of textile‐based 3D shaped materials and components. 4.Innovative multi‐functional textiles for energy‐efficient, safe construction and new architectural solutions. 5.Innovative textile solutions for various marine applications and coastal protection. 6. Innovative textile solutions for protection and efficiency in agriculture and landscaping. 7. Digital Fashion ‐ the consumer‐driven integrated digital textile and clothing factory.

11 INNOTEXTILE Federation of Apparel & Textiles Industry Employers Krakow 2015 Expected results of the study should lead to further improvement of the competitiveness of the sector, defined as the ability to participate effectively in the global market. The main areas of research, coherent with EU policy are focus on the following issues:  How to ensure the sustainable development of raw materials and textile technologies?  How to effectively protect the environment with a view to reducing energy and water consumption?  How to develop properties of the textiles to increase their use in the economy?  How to prepare the textile industry for the new challenges of personalization products and the use of electronics and computer science?
