Prevention Funding Prioritization Washington State developed “Risk Scales” to leverage limited resources for 50 communities. A data-informed approach for prevention funding allocation which considers communities with the highest need. Based on two components: Risk Profiles Healthy Youth Survey (HYS)

Risk Scale Components – Risk Profiles Community Domain Availability of Drugs Extreme Economic & Social Deprivation Transitions & Mobility Antisocial Behavior of Community Adults Low Neighborhood Attachment Community Disorganization Family Domain Family Problems School Domain Academic Achievement School Climate Individual/Peer Domain Early Criminal Justice Involvement Problem Outcomes Child and Family Health Criminal Justice Substance Use

Risk Scale Components - HYS Washington State Healthy Youth Survey (HYS) Targets students in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 Collects data every two years Captures data on physical, mental, and behavioral health (including alcohol use)

Outcomes Risk scales developed for each school district based on: Alcohol consumption Consequences of youth alcohol use Assessments conducted to determine individual districts readiness to engage in prevention activities.

Discussion Items Is developing risk scales a valuable tool for the prevention system? Is there sufficient data available to develop Florida risk scales? Should risk scales be created across all four priority substance abuse problems? How would risk scales be operationalized in the prevention system?
