Preamble of the Constitution We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Form a More Perfect Union
We improved on the first American system of government which was based on the Articles of Confederation. As Americans, we should always seek out ways to make our system of government better for all citizens.
Establish Justice
Laws and penalties/punishments should be fair and reasonable.
Insure Domestic Tranquility
Maintain peace within the nation so that all may be secure.
Provide for the Common Defense
Protect the nation and the nation’s interests from outside forces.
Promote the General Welfare
Actions taken by the government should always be taken with the best interests of the public in mind.
Secure the Blessings of Liberty
Provide citizens with the right to life, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness
