2. Preamble - what does it do?
It states the purpose of the Constitution
Proposed a gov’t based on the will of the people-direct democracy
Actually set up a gov’t in which the people elect representatives to express their will - representative democracy

3. Preamble -what does it mean?
We the people - not the gov’t
of the United States - one being
in order to form a more perfect Union-better than under the Articles
establish justice-make laws and set up courts that are fair
insure domestic tranquility-to maintain peace here in the U.S.

4. Preamble (cont.)
Provide for the common defense -protection from invasion from outside
promote the general welfare-to ensure people’s general wellbeing
secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity-make sure this nation’s people and their descendants remain free

5. Preamble-the approval
Do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America
We set up this document and give it the power of the people, for all of the people, in all of the states that have formed and will join this united country located in America.
