ORIGIN OF FOOD by Nelly HO

The origin of food from the supermarket : In tahiti we have a lot of products imported from different countries . We don't have a lot of our products in our groceries stores like fries , spices (….) , because we have many foreign products . In this menu , all of the ingredients I take are imported  . How I can know ? I know, because in all of the packaging of our ingredients we can see the gencode . Gencode are really usefull , because we can know where the products are from and it’s really easy to look on the internet.

We choose « Fries and steack » What we need to make it : - steak ( beef) - fries ( quick freezer) - also spicies : salt, pepper, ... - and also oil If you want : - different sauces  : blue cheese , BBQ , pepper, tomato ( ketchup) or mayonnaise

Gencode : For the fries : It is said on the packaging that , they are « french fries » but NO , because of the GenCode we know where they are really from and they are from United States. They are really popular in our supermarkets though. From there to Tahiti , it is about 8 295 km transported on a plane. « 0 74373 39164 5 »

For the steak : Here the packaging is not lying , it is really imported from New Zelande. All the meat in Tahiti comes from New zealand From there to Tahiti it is about 4276 km , also on the plane.

We can not use imported products and we can use our own to make delicious things

Like here in Tahiti : « poisson cru » The «poisson cru ( raw fish) » is a traditional dish here. To make the « poisson cru », we use : coconut milk , raw fish fron the Pacific Ocean , tomatoes, cucumbers , carrots, ognions and salt. All of these products are from here and this dish is really easy to make it and delicious We grow our veggies and use them and we aslo fish to have fresh fishes, and it doesn't cost anything.

Because of the emission of the CO2 by the importation of products from others countries to Tahiti and, also the travel from our airport to our supermarket, cause a lot of pollution on the air and make our planet more and more TOXIC. WE NEED TO THINK MORE ABOUT OUR PRODUCTS TO SAVE OUR PLANET AND DON’T MAKE A LOT OF CO2 EMISSION. THINK GLOBAL EAT LOCAL
