Integrating voiceover with a Bluetooth keyboard by Chris Maniscalco

But First…Why the IPad???

OK So…Why the IPad??? Screen Reader Fine Tuning Bookshare Ubiquitous VoiceOver vs TalkBack Fine Tuning Rotor (more efficient with practice) vs Menu Bookshare Read2Go (better control over speech rate and contrast) vs GoRead (inaccessible menus) Ubiquitous Nearly half of all U.S. teens own an iPhone

Accessibility Settings for Low Vision ZOOM

Zoom The Zoom Controller was introduced with iOS 8 and gives the user faster access to Zoom’s options. When idle, the Zoom Controller appears as a compass-like button.

Zoom Controller When activated, the Zoom Controller allows the user to choose between several of Zoom’s settings. The Choose Filter setting lets the user invert colors, implement greyscale, or dim the lighting.

iOS10 Update iOS 10 added two new tabs to the Vision menu: Magnifier: triple-click Home button to enable Display Accommodations Invert Colors Color Filters Reduce White Point

Invert Colors In iOS 10, Invert Colors is now under the Display Accommodations tab.

Speak Screen Speak Selection Adds a Speak option when a word is highlighted. Speak Screen Swipe two fingers down from the top of the screen. Voices Change language preference. Highlight Content Use in portrait mode. A quick alternative to VoiceOver is Speak Screen. This feature will read the contents of the page without going through the VoiceOver process. This menu appears at the top of the screen and allows you to pause, fast forward and rewind, as well as speed up or slow down speech.

Meet Isabel! Isabel is a senior at Gilmer High School with light perception only since birth. When she is not using VoiceOver to complete her schoolwork, she is either singing in her church choir or learning a foreign language. While she maintains her dream of one day becoming a singer, she is focused on becoming an interpreter. Isabel has recently been the star of several videos that have been posted to the Paths To Technology website. These videos are designed to help students with visual impairments, as well as their teachers, learn how to use the Bluetooth keyboard effectively with VoiceOver. http://www.perkinselearning.org/technology/posts/isabel-demonstrating-using-ipad-and-bluetooth-keyboard-voiceover
