3 Screen Readers Struggling readers and auditory learners comprehend best when print and sound are presented together. Screen readers can also help support independence in the editing and revision step of the writing process- listen to your work before you submit it. Speak Selection Even with VoiceOver turned off, you can have iPad read aloud any text you select. Turn on Speak Selection. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Speech. There you can also: Adjust the speaking rate Choose to have individual words highlighted as they’re read Have text read to you. Select the text, then tap Speak. You can also have iPad read the entire screen to you. See Speak Screen. (Covered later in this presentation.) This is the same reason it is recommended you use closed captioning.

4 Alex Voice Alex is an extra download, it will use storage space. Alex’s voice uses natural intonation, a fast speaking rate, and evaluates paragraphs instead of words to pronounce homonyms correctly.
