Battery Car Race Design DRAWING

Battery Car Race Material List The following components were used to construct the car. Three (3) plastic wheels One (1) 12.5 cm metal axle One (1) 14.5 cm drinking straw One (1) AA battery pack One (1) Pitsco #280 motor One (1) piece of foamboard Two AA batteries Two (2) eyelets

Battery Car Race Assembly Procedure Use the following directions to construct a DIRECT DRIVE car. Refer to the drawing on the next slide for help.  Collect and inventory all materials. Lay the foamboard frame on the table in front of you with the “F” (front) to the right and the “R” (rear) to the left. Start in the top left corner and use your ruler to make marks that are 2 cm and 14 cm from the end. Now move to the lower left corner and make more marks at the same distance. Use the red pencil and connect the two-2 cm marks with a line. This is the mark for the rear axle. Repeat step #5 for the two-14 cm marks. This line will pass through the middle of the rectangular box that has been pre-cut into your balsawood frame. This is the line for the front axle. The rear axle and front axle lines should be parallel to each other. Take the straw, which will act as a bushing, and cut it to a length of 11.5 cm. Slide the bushing on the axle. Push a wheel onto each end of the axle. If it is not a tight fit, place a drop of glue into the axle hole first. Do the same on the other side of the axle. Use the tape and attach the bushings to the frame exactly over top of the rear axle line. The bushing will extend over the edges of the frame. Push the single wheel onto the motor shaft. If it is not a tight fit, place a drop of glue in the wheel shaft hole. Glue or tape the motor to the frame, making sure that the axle of the motor is in line with the front axle line. Make sure the switch on the battery pack is in the “off” position. Center the battery pack on the frame between the front and rear axles. Place it in a position so that it balances the car. Attach with tape. Connect the clip on the red side of the battery pack with the red wire of the motor. Do the same with the black wires. Hold the car up off of the table and turn the battery pack switch to “on.” The motor and wheel should turn. To reverse the direction simply switch the wires, red clip to black wire and black clip to red wire.
