We will have a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 12th. Second Grade Classroom News Valentine’s Day We will have a Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 12th. Please decorate a Valentine’s box/bag at home to send with your student to school the day of the party. Please make sure to send a Valentine for each classmate. There is a class list on the back of this newsletter. Party Supplies: Treats- Carlie, Amelia Plates/Napkins: Jon Juice: Mrs. Miller In math we are started to work on more difficult addition and subtraction facts using different strategies. We also have been discussing graphs, base 10 blocks, adding and subtracting 10s and 100s, and measuring. Everyday math is a spiraled curriculum so we are always coming back to and reviewing different topics. In reading we are working on their rate of reading and understanding what they read. Some topics we have talked about is cause and effect in a story, sequence of a story, story elements, predicting and story retell. Please keep reading with your children at home and make sure to ask them if they remember what they heard and/or read after a chapter or few pages. If they are confused on a word instead of just telling them the word you can : point out the silent e or remind them two vowels together the first one does the talking. The best way to get better at reading is to simply read.
