Whitehouse Primary Environmental Review

Meet the Eco-Committee

First Task At our first meeting we had lots to talk about and shared lots of ideas. To decide what to do first we need to….. Think about what we already do well Think about what needs to be improved

Litter/Rubbish 1. Is there too much litter on the ground in our school grounds? 2. Does the school have organised litter picking sessions? 3. Are there enough bins inside and outside, in the school grounds?

Energy 4. Are the lights left on in the classrooms when people aren’t in them? 5. Is it sometimes too hot in the classrooms and the heating can’t be turned down? 6. Are the computers in the ICT suite left on when not in use?

Waste 7. Does the school recycle paper from classrooms and offices? 8. Does the school compost its waste fruit/vegetables/weeds etc? 9. Does the school try to buy goods made from recycled materials?

Water 10. Are there push-stop water saving taps in the toilets?

School Grounds 12. Does the school have a growing area? 13. Are there enough places for pupils to sit at playtime?

Biodiversity 14. does the school have a wildlife area? 15. How else do you try to attract wildlife into the school grounds?

Transport 16. Is there a problem with cars outside school – before school and at home time? 17. Is it possible for most pupils to walk/cycle to school or take public transport?

Healthy Living 18. Does the school have a fruit/healthy shop at break-times? 19. Are healthy options encouraged for school dinners? 20. Is drinking water available in class?

Global Perspective 21. Do pupils consider how actions taken within the school affect people and the environment locally and globally?

Climate Change 22. Do you use energy saving bulbs in classrooms and offices? 23. Do pupils use roll-on deodorants instead of aerosols after PE? 24. Do you buy food that is locally sourced? 25. Do you plant new trees/shrubs in your school grounds?

What next? At the next Eco-committee meeting we will share the results from each class and use this to write an action plan for the rest of the year. We will share results at an assembly and on our notice board.
