Background Efficient Transportation has remained a Mirage despite previous efforts by concerned bodies. (2012 IBM commuter pain index ranked Nairobi the 4th most congested city globally) Nairobi Metropolitan area Controls Over 50% of Kenya's GDP and it is estimated that USD. 1 Billion is lost annually due to congestion.

on in the NMA include:- Some of the major transport problems and challenges in Nairobi Metropolitan Area include – Inadequate integration of Land use Planning and transport planning Inefficient and inadequate Public Transport(PT) to meet the rising demand (disorganized & Free for all) High cost of transport compared to levels of income in the region Uncoordinated and unsynchronized efforts by the various bodies concerned with transport Inadequate development of non-motorised infrastructure network, Poor safety and high incidence of motor traffic accidents, Increased pollution and deterioration of the urban environment.

Why NaMATA Efficient transport system is critical to lowering the costs of doing business and increasing the competitiveness of Kenyan products both on the domestic, regional and international markets. Efficient transport system is a pre- requisite for achievement of Vision 2030

Why NaMATA 2017- NaMATA is established To solve the transport problem in the NMA, Deliberate efforts have been done, among them, Integrated National Transport Policy, 2012 which recommended the establishment of NaMATA 2017- NaMATA is established To oversee the establishment of an integrated, efficient, effective and sustainable public transport system within the Nairobi Metropolitan Area(NMA)
