Gives ingredients and instructions for preparing a specific food. Recipe: Gives ingredients and instructions for preparing a specific food.

A standardized recipe includes: Ingredient list: ingredients should be given in exact measurements, and should be listed in the order in which they will be used.

Standard measurements abbreviations include: C=cup T or tbsp=tablespoon  tsp or t=teaspoon oz=ounce  Lb=pound

Step-by-step directions, in order.

Equipment: Type of pan or container, and size

Cooking Time and Temperature

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe 1. Combine the following in a 5 quart mixing bowl: ¼ cup margarine ¼ cup shortening ½ cup brown sugar ¼ cup granulated sugar

2. Measure and stir into another bowl: 1 ¼ cups flour ½ t baking soda ¼ t salt Mix the dry ingredients in step 2 with the combined mixture in step 1 until well-mixed.

4. Turn dough onto plastic wrap and label 3. Add the following: 1 egg ½ t vanilla 1 cup chocolate chips 4. Turn dough onto plastic wrap and label with group number and class period; refrigerate overnight.

Temperature and Time 6. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Portion dough onto ungreased cookie sheets. 7. Flatten cookies with palm of your hand or mallet. 8. Bake 10-12 minutes.

Finishing After removing cookies from oven, let them cool on the cookie sheet for a few minutes to set. Remove with metal cookie turner and place on wax paper to cool completely.

Yield: about 2 dozen 2”cookies
