From Homeless to Housed Housing is The Foundation for Wholeness.

What is our goal for the Community Quarterly Meetings? To create an energizing space in Pierce County for people of faith and goodwill to share knowledge and act on strategies to end homelessness.

How will we achieve our goal? Regularly attend the Community Quarterly Meetings. Remain updated about what homelessness looks like in Pierce County. Learn about the homeless system and other services offered in the community. Provide opportunities to become directly involved (projects, volunteering, advocating, etc.). Leverage the very limited resources in our community.

Successes from our last Community Quarterly Meeting: One church that currently supports the Family Housing Network may expand the shelter stay limit by SEVEN nights. Alan Brown, Director of the Family Housing Network, will begin conversations with a new congregation to possibly house families for one or two weeks. An intern position was created to develop a “needs bank” for volunteer. Results: Households experiencing homelessness will be sheltered for 21 additional nights! A system will be developed to easily meet volunteer’s needs!

What individuals can DO to make a difference. Putting it into ACTION!

Shared Housing Services Mark Merrill, Executive Director

Group Break Outs: Option #1: Strengthening CCS Family Housing Network. Option #2: Supporting Shared Housing Services.

Strengthening Catholic Community Services’ Family Housing Network Alan Brown, Director of Housing Services Your congregation could host 5 families experiencing homelessness overnight for 1-2 weeks per year. Create Move-In Kits Support shelter bathrooms and day centers. Hygiene products for men, women and children experiencing homelessness. Needs for families in shelter.

Ways to support Shared Housing Services Mark Merrill, ED for Shared Housing Services Host a youth experiencing homelessness. Gather hygiene products. Gift cards for food. Bus passes or ORCA cards. Invite Shared Housing to present at your place of worship.

Strategies to engage members of the faith community Mike Yoder, ED for Associated Ministries Think about a project (big or small) that you were involved in at your church or in your community that made a GREAT impact and changed people’s lives. What learnings contributed towards the success? How were people informed? What motivated you to become involved? What were some of the best practices learned? What are other learnings from past successes?

What You Can DO To Make a Difference Make sure information about these meetings is in your congregation’s bulletin and/or newsletter. Bring a friend to this meeting next time. Talk to your pastor about these meetings. Invite AM to your congregation to present about the CES or other AM programs. Take part in a project that directly assists those experiencing homelessness.
