Whole class activity to create a healthy relationships display. Cwtch the Caterpillar Whole class activity to create a healthy relationships display.

Meet Cwtch the caterpillar… Cwtch wants to know how we should feel and be treated in a healthy relationship? In small groups brainstorm as many words and phrases as you can, which show how we should feel and be treated in a good relationship with our family and friends.

As a class we are going to make a giant Cwtch the caterpillar, which will remind us of how we should be treated in a relationship. Each group will be given segments of Cwtch’s body to decorate with key words but to make sure that each word is different we are going to use a thesaurus to improve our vocabulary.

When you look up a word in a thesaurus you will find a list of words that have similar meanings (synonyms) to the word you have looked up. This can be really helpful when making your writing more interesting. It will also give words that have the opposite meaning (antonyms) so be careful not to mix them up! What is a thesaurus? For example if you look up ‘happy’ in a thesaurus you may find: Happy (adj) in high spirits: Cheerful, contented, delighted, pleased, glad… Antonyms for happy: Depressed, disappointed, down…

Use a thesaurus to find a word starting with a different letter of the alphabet for how we should feel or be treated in a good relationship?

As a class / group you will need to decide which word or phrase you are decorating your segment with. Once you have decorated your segments you can start joining them together to make one giant caterpillar. Don’t forget to add Cwtch’s head and an explanation about who Cwtch is!
