Nursery/P1 Transition Evaluation Feedback We would like to thank all our parents and carers who took the time to complete our Nursery/P1 transition evaluation especially during such a busy start to P1! The feedback received has identified areas of strength in our transition programme and areas to develop for our next steps. How would you rate the transition programme whilst your child was at Nursery? 80% of our families felt the transition was good, very good or excellent. 16% felt the transition was satisfactory. 4% found the transition to be weak. How would you rate the settling in phase of P1? 100% of our families felt the settling in phase of Primary 1 was good, very good or excellent. Areas of the Transition which received positive feedback and will continue: P1 Information Session (June) P1 Meet the Teacher session (August) Dinner hall experience (June) Drop in sessions for children (with support of Nursery staff) P7 buddies Children’s visits to P1 classroom Playground visits Our Next Steps which will be added and/or improved include: Photos of P7 buddies will be included in the buddy letter to cater for any children who may miss the buddy session. A review of cursive handwriting in Primary 1 will be carried out over the coming session. A gradual increase of time in school during the first two weeks of Primary 1 will be introduced. This will include children staying in school for lunch during the second week. A stay and play session in the P1 classroom for children and parents will be introduced after the dining hall experience in June. If possible, the class teacher for P1 will be identified in advance to ensure children are building a relationship with their class teacher. Paperwork and information for partnership nurseries will be tightened to ensure information is consistent for all children regardless of the nursery setting they are attending.

Some additional comments received… All the transition sessions were extremely beneficial for my child and myself. I thought the transition was excellent with multiple opportunities for the kids to attend school prior to the holidays. This definitely helped my child feel more prepared for his first day. I feel the transition to P1 was fantastic. Allowing the nursery key workers to visit the school class with the children is a great idea. Looking forward to the drop in sessions. The Meet the Teacher Curricular evening is good timing. The Nursery did amazing getting my child ready for school. He has settled into P1 with no problems. My child had lots of stories from the classroom visits. He was very excited. All of the experiences really put my child at ease. Children were familiar with the school and teachers. Always good to hear what the year ahead is going to be. Thanks for all your support in providing a positive experience. Teachers have been fantastic and really helped my child settle into P1. Transition is well organised. Working with the existing P1s was good. A lot of information given regarding the first week and what was needed. Was good to have a name to a face for key personnel. We’d like to thank all parents/carers who took time to complete the evaluation providing us with invaluable feedback. We look forward to implementing our next steps and providing an excellent transition experience for all children entering P1.
