Tapestry

What is Tapestry? Tapestry is a secure online Learning Journal to record photos, observations and comments, in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum, to build up a record of your child's experiences during their time with us.

Benefits It is a great way for parents to stay connected to what is happening at school It is really useful for us to get your thoughts and feedback on observations and see what they do at home School is only a part of a child’s week and parental involvement with Tapestry enables us to gather a larger picture of a child’s learning.

Who has access? Named staff Parents/carers

How do we use Tapestry in Class R
During the day classroom staff will record the amazing things your child is doing at school by taking a quick photo or video. We will also jot down notes to add later. We feel strongly that we should be available to support children in their learning and that children should not see staff with a screen in front of them. Please note that the observations are often completed after school hours, therefore the observations will appear at different times. Please remember it is not a daily diary. Staff will tick the age banded area of development linked to the Early Years Outcomes (Sept 2013) and Characteristics of effective learning. Please remember the highlighted statement is not representative of where we feel your child’s is working in all areas, merely a snapshot of the activity observed. Please feel free to add comments like “He can count even further at home. To 25!”. Children will also have project book in class to include writing and some number work. This will be used more later in the school year.

What Parents see: Parents can see what their children do at school and read the observations. An observation consists of a picture or video, observation and curriculum statements for that observation.

Comments can be added to these observations at home to help inform the staffs planning and future activities to include children’s interests.

Parents are able to add their own observations of things outside of school.

Questions asked…. Where does the data go after the children have left?
The Tapestry on-line Learning Journey system is hosted on secure dedicated servers based in the UK. All data held on our Tapestry account is owned by Seedling Nursery; we are registered controllers of data with the Information Commissioner’s Office and are bound by the Data Protection Act. Photographs stored on the tablets are deleted daily by a member of staff. Photos should be deleted from tablet after uploaded to tapestry. When children leave Hodent Primary School. The child’s information, and their Learning Journey will be permanently deleted from our Tapestry account so no data on that child will remain with us once they have left.
