Revision You all should have started by now… …make use of all the resources from your teachers (quote sheets, rehearsal questions, ‘perfect paragraphs’ that cover beginning, middle and end of the texts). …create small guides to remind you quickly what you have to do for each question on the language paper (use past papers to work out!) …address your skills target from first trial exams (your EBI’s), and ones being set for you in class (talk to your teacher if you are unsure); re-read your Academic Review. …use the revision guides which have been distributed. If you do not have them, please collect a revision guide letter on your way out. We will be doing another order. …visit revision websites: Mr Bruff (YouTube), CLZ, BBC Bitesize, Skillswise, AQA …arrange to see your teacher at lunch times for further support. Every teacher also has a revision session open to all students at least once a week. …be organised: Focus on the questions you have underperformed on, and improve.

Exam tips: Remember your personal EBI advice! Ms Fenn Reading: Make sure you cover 2-3 points from the extract, and then at least two other (different) places from the novel. Say a LOT about a LITTLE! Say as much as you can about the quotes – what you learn about character/why they say it/how it links to plot! Writing: Think about WHY you are writing. You want each paragraph to do something to your reader – how should they feel at the end of each section? Remember that argue, persuade and explain are NOT rants…you need to formally present a range of ideas! Mr Howell Reading: Don’t forget the context! Link it to the quote you’re talking about and make it relevant. Writing: Fit the form requirements: Describe = 3rd person Narrate = 1st person If you are asked to narrate, you need only a few action points, not a feature film! Remember your personal EBI advice!

FEB HALF TERM - REVISION TIMETABLE

Prom passport – 12th Feb to 12th May 10 school weeks in the build up to GCSE exams In place to ensure all students are focused and engaged in learning at this critical time. Each student starts with 50 credits. Credits are removed in lessons, by staff for any behaviour deemed to be detrimental to their learning or the learning of others. This may include failure to attend class, lateness, lack of equipment, failure to settle, lack of focus, lack of work, sub standard quality of work, rudeness, defiance or other disruption. If students reach zero credits, they initially lose the option to attend Prom. Students will then be placed on a specified zero tolerance report for whatever time is left, in order to earn their place back. We have no desire to refuse students their option to attend Prom, but we do have a desire to ensure they are doing all they can to earn it!
