The presentation

What should my presentation be on? Your presentation should be about which country or area you have visited on holiday Your presentation should last 1 – 2 minutes. Look at the notes you made from the reading texts. You must include some information/phrases from the texts, but you can also include your own ideas and opinions as well.

What should I include in my presentation? You need to say where you’ve already been on You could also talk about where you would like to go and give reasons & opinions Or where you usually go on holiday

How should I start and end my talk? To start, you could say: Bonjour Madame. Je vais vous parler des vacances en/à ......... To finish, you could say: Merci. Avez-vous des questions?

What are the features of a good presentation? Success criteria A good presentation should: be well structured contain a range of phrases contain different tenses contain plenty of reasons and opinions contain connectives

How do I give a good presentation? Success Criteria Be well prepared and confident. You will need to practise at home. Speak slowly and clearly with good pronunciation Make eye contact Don’t fidget!

Questions: Que penses-tu des vacances en famille? Avec qui vas-tu en vacances d’habitude? Quel temps fait-il normalement en ……. ? Tu aimes les vacances à la plage? Pourquoi? Tu préfères voyager en voiture ou en avion? Pourquoi? Tu préfères rester dans un hôtel ou dans une caravane? Pourquoi? Tu préfères passer tes vacances dans une grande ville ou à la campagne? Pourquoi?

Investigation and presentation I can use my language skills to investigate and report on a chosen topic in French/German.

Stage 1: I will select a topic and will choose at least two written texts to read. I will show that I have understood these texts by answering question in English, completing a gap fill exercise or a find the French/German for ….. exercise. Stage 2: I will select information and phrases in French/German from the texts that I will be able to use in my presentation. Stage 3: I will give a presentation in French/German on my topic. Stage 4: I will answer at least 4 questions in French/German about my presentation.

How will I know which topic to choose? You will discuss this with your teacher. Where will I find texts about my topic? Your teacher will provide you with a selection of texts. You may also do some research yourself at home if you want. How long does my presentation have to be? Your presentation should last 1 – 2 minutes. Will I have to do my presentation to the class? No, you will do your presentation to your teacher.

Will I be allowed to have notes? Yes, you will be allowed to use brief headings to help you remember your presentation. You will have to learn your presentation. You may also bring in pictures, maps etc to illustrate your presentation. What questions will my teacher ask? Your teacher must ask you at least 4 questions. You will be given examples of the type of questions that the teacher will use but you will not know exactly which questions you will get or the order they will come in

Questions: What is the speaker going to talk about? Where does she usually go on holiday & why? Which part of the holiday doesn't she like & why? Where did she go last year? Why would she like to go to Australia? Where would she like to stay? Why would she like to visit Sydney? What often happens in Australia when it's sunny? Which sports would she like to try? back

Reading Texts The texts you read and analysed will help you create your presentation. Pick useful phrases you can use You can follow the same structure Do not try to “re-invent the wheel”! Remember it doesn’t have to be the truth! You will need to do some research at home

Research Look for facts about your holiday destination Food speciality Famous monuments Mountains, rivers, seas... Activities Make sure you look for their French names!!! All your research needs to be included in your folder so make notes on paper or print your work and date it. Don’t forget to keep a record of your research in your booklet

STRUCTURE You can look at your texts for the structure WATCH: not to create a Wikipedia! To write in the correct tense! Some texts are written in the past, others the present, conditional… Use a variety of tenses: Talk about a past holiday Say where you’d like to go in the future Talk about your next holiday

RECAP Presentation: Conversation: 1st draft must be finished by Thursday You must include phrases from the texts you have studied Conversation: Answer all 7 questions in your jotter. Use helpsheet for support Put a next to the questions you have already answered in your presentation
