Glare Control – UGR Explained Unified Glare Rating (UGR) is method to predict experiences of glare by a large number of users. The lower the value = less discomfort glare experienced by the observers. Used extensively in Europe, particularly office spaces. In general, UGR increases (= glare predictably worse) with:   Increase contrast between the luminance of the luminaire and the background luminance; Decreasing distance from direct line of sight; Increasing high angle brightness of the luminaire as measured by mean luminance between 45 degrees and 85 degrees in cd/m2.
