Grade 2 Classroom News January 30, 2017 February 2 - Groundhog Day I will be out of school the week of February 6 through the 10th. Your child will be in good hands with Mrs. Brooks. She is an experienced substitute teacher that we have used often. The students know her and like when she is my substitute. We have PE this week so please remember to send your child with sneakers. Math: We have finished Topic 3 on place value, counting and comparing numbers. Our next topic is addition and subtraction within 200 and solving word problems to 100. Mrs. Brooks will be teaching about data and graphing while I am out for that week. Social Studies: The class will be working on National Symbols. They will be doing research to find the important facts and then create a poster to share what they learned. Writing: The class will begin the genre of informative writing. They have done some through the writing of staff biographies and research reports. They will learn the more formalized structure of informational writing which is similar to the opinion writing they’ve learned. February 2 - Groundhog Day February 10 – Report cards and portfolios go home February 27 – Beginning of February Vacation
