Core Subjects - English Curriculum Outline Assessment Structures Four Examinations: 2 x English Language 2 x English Literature English Language Paper 1 = Explorations in creative reading and writing Paper 2 = Writer’s viewpoints and perspectives English Literature Paper 1 = Shakespeare and the 19th Century Novel Paper 2 = Modern Texts and Poetry Read fluently, and with good understanding, a wide range of texts from the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries, including literature and literary non-fiction. Sit closed book examinations on three substantial texts (a Shakespearean play, a 19th-century novel, a modern prose or play text).

How can I help my child with their… …reading? …writing? Encourage good habits with reading. Share the things that you read. Explore how words work. Explore how texts are structured. Debate how effective a text is. Maintain high expectations of your child’s literacy. Read and discuss examples of their writing. Explore their strategies for approaching the longer writing tasks. Link what they have been reading to their writing.

What can you do to help? What can I do to support my child? There is no such thing as no homework! Key term practice, CGP/GCSEapps/Gojimo revision apps, past papers, BBC Bitesize, revision guides, exam questions, lesson resources… Where can I buy revision guides? From the school (cheaper than anywhere else). Please collect a letter on your way out if you need one. Where can my child get extra help? Every Wednesday and Thursday after school between 3:15 to 4:15 by appointment with teachers.
