SNAKES BY CAYDEN

A snake’s anatomy SNAKES HAVE A FORKED TONGUE THAT IS USED TO SMELL. SNAKES HAVE 400 RIBS, HUMANS ONLY HAVE 24. SNAKES’ SCALES KEEP THEM FROM DRYING OUT. THE BROWN VINE SNAKE LOOKS LIKE A TWIG. SOME SNAKES ARE THE SIZE OF A WORM, SOME ARE THE SIZE OF A SCHOOL BUS. SNAKES HAVE STRONG MUSCLES.

A SNAKE’S HABITAT SNAKES LIVE IN FORESTS, WATER, DESERTS AND GRASSLANDS. THE KING COBRA IS THE ONLY SNAKE THAT BUILDS NESTS. MOST SNAKES LIVE IN WARM PLACES. THE COTTONMOUTH SNAKE LIVES IN WATER, SWAMPS AND RIVERS. THE BROAD HEADED SNAKE LIVES IN SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA.

A SNAKE’S LIFE CYCLE MOST SNAKES LAY EGGS. THE MOTHER LAYS 3-16 EGGS AT A TIME. THE EGGS ARE LEATHERY. THE MOTHER AND FATHER SNAKE LEAVE THE EGGS WHEN THEY’RE LAID. THE BABY SNAKES CUT OUT OF THEIR SHELLS. WHEN THE BABIES ARE ADULTS THEY WILL SHED THEIR SKIN. SNAKES CAN LIVE UP TO 40 YEARS OLD.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SNAKES SNAKES ARE SOMETIMES PETS. SNAKES HAVE EXISTED FOR MILLIONS OF YEARS. SNAKES THAT LIVE IN ZOOS SOMETIMES DON’T EAT FOR MONTHS. MOST SNAKES ARE HARMLESS. THE MOST VENOMOUS SNAKES ARE FOUND IN AFRICA AND AUSTRALIA. THERE ARE OVER 2,700 KINDS OF SNAKES.
