Australia Australia is a continent and a country. It covers 7.692 million square kilometres. The population of Australia is 23.13 million people. The capital of Australia is Canberra. The name Canberra is based on an Aboriginal name for the area Kamberra or Kambery. The currency of Australia is the Australian dollar.

Australian Flag The currency of Australia is the Australian dollar. The prime minister is Malcolm Turnbull and the minster is Susan Ley. The Australian flag was adopted after a compition was announced to design the flag.

Minister: Malcolm Turnbull The prime minister is Malcolm Turnbull and the minster is Susan Ley. Malcolm Bligh Turnbull is the 29th and current Prime Minister of Australia and the Leader of the Liberal Party. Malcolm was born on the 24th of October in 1954. Malcolm was married to Lucy Turnbull in 1980.

Sport In Australia they have national teams of cricket, rugby, soccer, basketball, hockey, netball, softball, water polo and wheelchair rugby. Australia’s soccer team’s manager and head coach is Ange Postecoglou. The captain is Michael (Mile) Jedinak plays midfield for Australia and his club Austin Villa F.C. For the world cup qualifiers in Russia 2018 Australia are third in the table.

Captain James Cook Captain James Cook was an explorer. He was born on the 7th of November 1728. In the United Kingdom. James Cook was married in the late 1762. In the 1770s Captain Cook discovered the west coast of Australia landing on Botany Bay. He also figured out that New Zealand was not connected to the main land of Australia.

Sydney Opera House Sydney opera house is a multi- preforming arts venue. It was built by Danish architect Jorn Utzon. It was opened by Queen Elizabeth II on the 20th of October 1973. Sydney conducts over 3,000 events each year and it provides guided tours for 200,000 people each year. The construction cost AU $ 102,000,000 to build the whole building.

Sydney Harbour Bridge Sydney harbour bridge is an arch bridge across Sydney harbour. It brings vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists from Sydney central business district to the North Shore. Construction began on the bridge on July 28th 1923. Construction finished on the bridge on the 19th of January 1932. Premier Jack Lang opened the bridge on March 19th 1932. It was built by John Bradfield, Thomas S. Tait and Ralph Freeman.

Beaches There are lots of beaches in Australia, one beach in Sydney people eat Christmas dinner there. It is Bondi beach. The hottest weather ever recorded in Bondi beach was 45.8 degrees Celsius on the 18th of January 2013. Some other beaches in Australia is Perth beach. Perth beach is in Western Australia. Whitsunday Islands is another beach with beautiful golden sand and a sky blue beach. The hottest weather ever in Australia was 50.7 degrees Celsius. On January 2nd 1960 in Oodnadatta in South Australia.

Ayers Rock Ayers rock (Uluru) is a massive sandstone located 450km away from Alice Springs. The Uluru is 3.6km long and 1.9km wide. It is a bright orange-red colour. It was named by William Gosse in 1873 after Sir Henry Ayers. Uluru is the Aboriginal and official name. The rock was created over 600 million years, and the Aborigines have been in the area for the last 10,000 years. It originally sat at the bottom of a sea, but today stands 348m above ground. The Ulru is 2.5 kilometres under ground.

The Aborigines The Aborigines lived in Australia for 40,000 years. They were nomads. The Aborigines belonged to different groups or tribes. The Aborigines each believed in good magic and bad magic. The Aborigines lived in peace until the late 1780s when the white people came. From then on their lifes changed, many died from diseases brought by the white people.
