Education case study Infographics Twitter Snapchat

Getting the message across in a visual world Designed by Colin Jacques

Twitter Embedded into undergraduate and postgraduate units: EDFD472 Transition to the profession, EDFD529 and EDFD589 Effective Teaching and Professional Practice (Primary and Secondary) Cohort of approx 90 - 145 students Aim: To get students to develop communities of practice (internal and external) ww.w.twitter.com

The Twitter journey The integration of Twitter, did not reap immediate rewards. 2009 student evaluations reported, “use of Twitter was tokenistic” (Student, EDFD529, 2009) “use of Twitter was over-dominated by certain students. There needs to be a way to control that.” (Student, EDFD529, 2009). The cyclic interrogation of the student evaluations and literature on the use of social media in higher education (e.g. Siemens, 2007; Keefer, 2008) has resulted in the establishment of a strong ACU social media community 2015 responses from student evaluations read, “The Twitter assignment was very enriching. I have a phobia of social media and was resistant to Twitter. However as I came to understand Twitter and how it is used I found it beneficial. I have made educational connections with experts all of [sic.] the world and will continue to use it throughout my career.” (Student, EDFD472, 2015)

2016 Twitter case study Removed Twitter as an assessment task From 133 students 30 chose to engage with Twitter Take home: ICT integration takes time Academics Students Change can not just come from within

Snapchat Embedded into Bachelor of Teaching/Bachelor of Arts EDST441 – ICT Curriculum and Teaching 1 Cohort of approx 50 students Aim: to get students to draw connections between personal experience and curriculum content (Dewey (1938/1997). Experience and education. Macmillan).
