Middle School Sports Info Night Winter 2016

Participation Requirements A current physical Physical lasts one calendar year. Signed Code of Conduct Agreement Form Pay to Play fee - $80 per student per sport Family cap is $360 per year

Athletic Code of Conduct Enforced 365 days a year All offenses are cumulative Contains: Academic Requirements Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco Policy Self-Referral

Academic Requirements/Eligibility All participants in athletic activities must meet academic eligibility. The program is twofold, with a credit check and minimum GPA requirement each 9 weeks. A probationary program is available to those not meeting the minimum GPA requirement. Students must have a passing grade in 5 classes immediately preceding the season. If passing 5 classes, student must maintain a 1.8 GPA or they will be put on the probationary program.

Drug/Alcohol/Tobacco Policy Student athletes are not allowed to possess, use, sell, give, transmit, or be under the influence of any drug at any time Prescription drugs, unless specifically prescribed are not allowed. The possession or use of any tobacco product is also prohibited.

Consequences for the Sale/Distribution of Drugs and/or alcohol First Violation: Prohibited from participation for one calendar year Cannot attend awards ceremony May petition to participate after the initial 12 month period from date of 1st violation 2nd Violation Student is indefinitely prohibited from participation in athletics and co-curricular/extra-curricular activities.

Consequences for the possession and/or use of Drugs/Alcohol First Violation Suspension from 100% of scheduled activities including playoffs and awards ceremonies. Suspension can be reduced to 50% if a drug/alcohol/tobacco assessment is completed. Second Violation Suspension from participation in athletics/co-curricular activities for one calendar year Third Violation Prohibited from participating in athletic/co-curricular activities while attending BCSD.

A Note about Parties Hosting parties where drugs and/or alcohol is present will be viewed the same as the distribution of drugs and/or alcohol, receiving the same discipline. To avoid discipline, students who host a party where the drugs and/or alcohol were present must immediately: 1) ask the individual(s) who brought the drugs and/or alcohol to leave, 2) call/inform parents, and 3) call the police. Students who follow this procedure will not be viewed as distributors of drugs and/or alcohol.

Attending a Party Where Drugs/Alcohol are present First Violation: Student will miss one game/event, but can still attend practice Second Violation: Student will miss 2 weeks of scheduled activities. The student will not have any team contact during this probationary period. They will also not be allowed to practice on school grounds. Third Violation: Student suspended from participation in athletics, co- curricular, and extracurricular activities for one calendar year.

Self-Referral Students are allowed to carry one voluntary referral during their participation Referrals can be made to the coach, athletic director, teacher, administrator, guidance counselor, or to the district prevention specialist, Kathy Fulkerson: kfulkerson@bcsoh.org, 330-273-0292 Students cannot use self-referral as a method to avoid consequences once a code of conduct rule has been violated.

Equipment/Materials Students are responsible for the care/keeping of all materials issued to them as participants in a Brunswick City Schools activity. Participants who fail to return uniforms, equipment or supplies will be fined the cost of replacing property at current prices. The school may hold grades, certificates, diplomas, records and deny further participation.
