2 Hazing Safe School Environment

3 Hazing Initiation or admission into a club, organization or team that:  Endangers mental or physical health  Causes mental stress such as sleep deprivation  Leads to embarrassment, shame or humiliation

15 Attendance Policy

16 Basic Beliefs  When a student misses class, either excused or unexcused, they miss important information  Teachers should have several graded assignments each day (formative/summative assessment).  Each class period should begin with a graded bell-ringer that cannot be made up unless the tardy is excused by either the front office, or the previous period teacher.  A student’s excused absences must be allowed to be made up—two school days.  Students are responsible to get make up work from the teacher by the next time they are in class—a class website where students can go to get the work is advisable.  When a student is tardy for or misses class, that student must make up the deficiency.  Tardy (less that 15 minutes late) = 15 minutes of detention  Late Tardy (more than 15 minutes but less than 30 minutes late) = 30 minutes of detention  Unexcused absence or sluff = 60 minutes of detention. 17 Eligibility  Because they represent their family, school and community as well as themselves in a public setting, students who represent Salem Hills High School in Extracurricular and Co-curricular activities will be held to a high standard of discipline, behavior, and character. This includes regular attendance in their classes.  Students who represent SHHS in these areas are bound by Utah High School Activities Association rules as well as by school and district policies. In order to participate in these activities, students must maintain a minimum 2.0 G.P.A. (3.0 for Cheer and Drill), and have no more than one F, I, or NG from the previous term.  In addition, SHHS requires that a student be Attendance Eligible the previous term in order to participate in the current term. This means that there can be no U, S, T, or L codes on the attendance record from the previous term. If their attendance has not been completely cleared, the student cannot participate with, suit up for, travel with or represent a school group in competitions, extracurricular field trips or whole school assemblies. Students who are attendance ineligible can attend school functions such as games, concerts, plays, and dances. Attendance Policy

18  Cost o Regular detention, either A.M. or P.M. At a cost of $1 per detention time served. o Saturday or Friday (following the last day of a term) detention has a cost of $10/4hours.  When o A.M. Detention starts at 7:00 and runs until 7:45, Monday-Friday. o P.M. Detention starts at 2:30 and ends at 3:30, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday. o P.M. Detention on Collaboration Wednesdays starts at 1:45 and ends at 2:45. o Saturday Detention, as determined to be needed by administration, starts at 8:00 and ends at 12:00. o All detentions will be served in Room C207, the Homework Help Lab. If a student does not work on homework, they will be asked to leave, receiving no detention credit.  Where All detentions will be served in Room C207, the Homework Help Lab. 19 Attendance Policy  Rewards o At the end of each term, all students who have been cleared of any attendance deficiencies will be invited to attend a rewards party. All students who qualify and attend will be given a reward and will become eligible for prize drawings at the party. o Each student who has remained clear of attendance deficiencies for the entire term will be eligible for a Ken Garff Keys to Success card, making them eligible for the end of the year Key Off Assembly.

21 Prohibition of Bullying

22 Nebo school district prohibits bullying of students by other students at school or school related activities and events. This includes any social media that has the potential to negatively affect the school environment. Incidents of bullying should be reported immediately

23 Electronic Devices

24 The school is not responsible for lost or stolen electronic devices. 3.1.1 Electronic devices may be used during a class period or school activity when specifically approved by the teacher or a school administrator in conjunction with educationally appropriate objectives. A teacher or school administrator should only authorize the use of electronic devices during a class period or other school activities when it benefits and enhances the students’ education. Such matters may be addressed in a disclosure document provided by the teacher outlining class rules, procedures, and expectations.
