The Heart Your heart is about the same size as your fist. An adult’s heart is about two fists. An average adult body contains about five quarts of blood.

Superior Vena Cava – large vein brings oxygen poor blood from upper part of body to the Right Atrium. - Inferior Vena Cava – vein that brings oxygen poor blood from the lower part of the body to the R. Atrium. 2. Oxygen poor blood is now in the Right Atrium. 3. Blood passes through the tricuspid valve and enters the Right Ventricle.

Oxygen rich blood is now in the Left Atrium. Pulmonary Arteries – bring oxygen poor blood to the right or left lung. Pulmonary veins – Bring oxygen rich blood from each of the lungs to the Left Atrium. Oxygen rich blood is now in the Left Atrium. Oxygen rich blood passes through the mitral valve and into the Left Ventricle. 3.

8. Aorta – Brings oxygen rich blood from the left ventricle to the body. Arteries – carry blood away from the heart. Veins – carry blood to the heart. Right side of the heart is oxygen poor blood because veins are bringing back the blood. Left side of the heart is oxygen rich blood because arteries are carrying the blood to the body cells.
