1 Heart Presentation By: Mark Gensimore

2 Parts of the Heart Let’s see the different parts that make up the heart

3 There are four chambers in the heart
Chambers of the Heart There are four chambers in the heart The top two chambers are called Atriums (left and right) The bottom two chambers are called ventricles ( left and right)

4 There are three major Veins in the heart
Veins of the Heart There are three major Veins in the heart The Superior Vena Cava brings blood from the top part of your body

5 Veins of the Heart The Inferior Vena Cava brings blood from the bottom part of your body The Pulmonary Vein returns blood to the heart after it receives fresh oxygenated blood from the lungs

6 There are two main arteries in the heart
Arteries of the Heart There are two main arteries in the heart The Aorta is the artery that takes blood to all parts of the body The Pulmonary Artery takes used blood from the heart to the lungs for oxygen

7 There are four valves in the heart
Valves of the Heart There are four valves in the heart Valves in the heart act like doors when they let blood pass through the chambers and into the arteries The valves close so blood cannot go backwards This way blood only travels in one direction

8 Pumping Blood Let’s see how the heart pumps blood to all parts of the body.

9 Blood Entering the heart
When used blood returns from the body it enters the heart in the Right Atrium through the Superior and Inferior Vena Cava

10 Blood Entering the Heart
Fresh oxygenated blood enters the Left Atrium through the Pulmonary Vein when returning from the lungs

11 Blood Changing Chambers
The Atriums squeeze the blood through the two valves down into the Left and Right Ventricles When these valves close blood cannot flow back into the Atriums

12 Blood Leaving the Heart
The Right Ventricle squeezes blood through a valve and into the Pulmonary Vein This vein takes blood to the lungs to get oxygen and get rid of carbon dioxide

13 Blood Leaving the Heart
At the same time the Left Ventricle squeezes oxygenated blood through a valve and into the Aorta This artery takes oxygenated blood to all parts of the body
