What is a globe? BY MISS. NOWIKI

So what is it? A small copy of the earth. sphere- shaped Shows the parts of earth that are land and water.

Vocabulary Oceans- earths largest bodies of water Atlantic ocean Arctic ocean Indian ocean Pacific ocean

Continets Continents- seven large bodies of land. 1. Africa 2. Antarctica 3. Asia Australia Europe North America South America

hemisphere Hemisphere- half a sphere the earth is divided into four parts 1. northern hemisphere 2. southern hemisphere 3. western hemisphere 4. eastern hemisphere

Equator An imaginary line that lies halfway between north pole and the south pole

Types of maps Political maps: Show info such as cities, states, and countries Use lines to show borders States and countries are shown in different colors

Physical maps Show the natural features of earth

Landform maps Show landforms, or shapes that make up Earths surface Examples: mountains, and plains show bodies of water such as lakes, rivers, and oceans.

Using maps Cardinal directions- north, south, east, and west Compose rose- a small drawing on a map that can help you find directions Intermediate directions- in- between directions- northwest, northeast southwest southeast Symbol- something that stands for something else Map key- gives the meaning of each symbol used on the map

Scale- shows the relationship between distances on a map and real distsnces Locater- a small map set onto the main map
