Elementary Math Competition Update December 17, 2015 Missy Walker HCS Math Coordinator

Each Huntsville City Elementary School Developed a Math Team Math Teams created at each elementary school Grade levels range from 3rd through 6th grade All interested students have opportunity to participate on Elementary Math Teams Math Team practice is held during the school day Opportunities for local and national competitions Current Elementary Math Team enrollment: over 600 Huntsville City students participating on a math team in their elementary school

Huntsville City Elementary Math Teams Compete in Various Math Tournaments Local Competition Participation Rocket City Junior Math Competition: October 2015 Perennial Math Competition: December 2015 Lakewood pre competition tournament: October 2015 Lakewood Invitational at HHS: December 2015 Future Local Competitions Randolph School Tournament: February 2016 Huntsville City Intramural Competition: March 2016 Whitesburg Math Competition: April 2016 National Competition: The Math League April 2016

Lakewood Elementary Hosted a Math Competition on December 15, 2015 Date: December 15 Location: Huntsville High School 8 Elementary Schools competed in an Individual Competition and Team Competition: about 150 students Snacks and dinner provided Awards given to students in each category Purpose was to help students prepare for future competitions Rachael

Huntsville City Schools will hold its first Elementary Intramural Math Competition Date: Saturday, March 5, 2016 Location: Lee High School Students in grades 3-6 will compete Students on all elementary math teams will compete in an individual competition and a team competition Snacks; lunch; and transportation provided Beth

All Elementary Math Teams will compete in a National Math Tournament in the Spring of 2016 All Elementary Schools will compete in The Math League Online Competition in April. Online program used to practice and prepare for culminating competition. Over 1000 schools in the nation participate in this competition. All students receive recognition for participation and awards are given for high scores in each elementary school.
