„Let the Science Discover Us” A Cultural Presentation on Szeghalom, Hungary
Budapest, the capital city Budapest, the "Little Paris of Middle Europe", is famous for its 1,000-year-old culture. Remains from Roman occupation and the Ottoman Empire can still be seen in the city. The capital has two sides, Buda and Pest, along river Danube, representing two different characters of the city.
Békés county in Hungary Szeghalom is situated to this part of the country:
Szeghalom Szeghalom is situated to north Békés county, where rivers Berettyó and Sebes-Körös meet. It is the oldest settlement in the county, already inhabited at the time of the Hungarian land conquest in the IX. century. The town is now home to about 9 thousand citizens.
The Coat of arms of Szeghalom The two fish in the coat of arms of Szeghalom is an ancient motif of the land conqueror Barsa family from the 10. century.
The D’Orsay Castle Several rich noble families had estates in the region. Their old castles have been renovated and they are now home to the town’s public institutions. The D’Orsay Castle is the beautiful Library building today.
The Kárász Castle The Kárász family’s castle has been transformed into the youth hostel of Péter András Grammar School.
Péter András (1840-1916) Péter András was a local landowner, who left his fortune to the Reformed church in Szeghalom with the purpose to build the first grammar school in the region.

Cultural Life The cultural institutions of Szeghalom offer many programs, such as theater performances, concerts, exhibitions, summer festivals and handicraft fairs.
Várhely Youth Camp The camp is a real treasure next to the Körös river. It is an excellent place for class excursions, summer camps, fishing, cycling and water tours.
