Online Classes

Online Classes All Oahu MBTA students MUST attend 2 Online classes every month. If you do not attend 2 classes, you will be non-compliant and must make up the class the following month.

If your child is ill and is unable to attend class, please email me or call me. If you are unable to reach me, please contact the elementary office. If your child does not meet the 2 class requirement for the month, he/she will need to make up the class missed the following month. The student will also be non-compliant until classes are made up.

In order to attend classes, you must book 2 classes through the scheduler. The scheduler is located on the virtual classroom (VC) website. I will show you where to find the scheduler on the VC in the upcoming slides.

Online Classes are Tuesdays (8:30 -9:30am) and Fridays (1:30 – 2:30pm) The days are subject to change if noted

Students must stay for the entire duration of class to receive credit. For example, a student leaving at 9:15 am will be considered leaving class early and will not receive credit.

What should my child bring to class? Students should bring: Paper and pencil **Note: Depending on the lesson, sometimes teachers may ask students to bring in certain supplies/materials. Teachers will either post required materials on the virtual classroom website or email the families directly.

Online Classes Expectations: Come to class prepared Be respectful to others Participate Try your best Have fun!

Virtual Classroom Website (Canvas)

Virtual Classroom All families must use the virtual classroom (VC) to access important information. Information you will find on the VC: Announcements Scheduler (where you can access classes) Forms Links to HCPS III and Common Core Field Trip Information

Virtual Classroom To access the virtual classroom, go to: https://mbta.instructure.com/login

You will come to this screen and will need to enter your email and password (assigned by the office)

Click on “courses” to access your child’s grade level VC.

You will then come to this home page screen.

If you scroll down the screen, you will find links If you scroll down the screen, you will find links. Click on the 1st link.

On this page, you will find the teacher welcome letter, policies/procedures, student information form, and field trip permission form. We will talk about the forms in upcoming slides.

Go back to the home screen to access the other links. To go back to the home screen, click on the “home” button on the far left.

Next, click on “course announcements.”

Click on “announcements.”

It will take you to the announcement page It will take you to the announcement page. On this page the teacher will list important information going on with the grade level.

Virtual Classroom To access other links, simply go back to the home screen by pressing the “home” button located on the far left side of the screen. Once on the home page, you can click on other links, such as the Hawaii Standards and Common Core, 1st grade standards, videos on how to use Canvas (the new VC), how to use the scheduler, classes, and field trips.

Virtual Classroom The tech department highly recommends that you watch the “getting started videos.” You can find the link on the home page. The short videos will help you to become more familiar with our new VC (which we refer to as Canvas).

Virtual Classroom Be sure to read the directions on how to use the scheduler. You will need to use the scheduler to book classes for your child. You may want to print the directions on how to use the scheduler and keep it on hand as a reference until you are comfortable with the process.

Virtual Classroom On the home screen, you will also find the “classes” link. This link will take you directly to the scheduler, where you will find the class listings for the month. Classes will be posted at the beginning of each quarter.

Virtual Classroom Please be sure to book a reservation through the scheduler to reserve a spot for your child. There are limited slots, so making a reservation is important. Teachers rely on the booking to confirm who will be attending and how many students to expect. The scheduler will let you know if there are seats available for the class. If there are no seats available then the class is full. Please move on to your 2nd choice.

Virtual Classroom To double check your class reservations, click on “month” tab.

Virtual Classroom Lastly, on the home screen, please click on “settings.” On your far right, you will see “ways to contact.” Please double check that your email is correct. You can edit it if necessary. You can also add additional emails and/or phone numbers. This is how the system will notify you of any changes or updates to the VC (including when classes are posted).

Virtual Classroom If you have questions or need assistance, please contact our tech department at (808)441-8000 You will also need to fill out a “ticket” for help from the tech department. To fill out a ticket, go to the “home” screen and click on the “help” button located on the far right corner (at the top). Next, click on “submit a MBTA support ticket.”

Virtual Classroom Click on “New support ticket.”

Virtual Classroom Fill out the information on your support ticket and click on “submit” button. You should hear back from the tech department within 24 hours. Remember, you can always call for help too. Tech phone number is (808)441-8000.

Portfolios

Portfolios Though MBTA will not be collecting student portfolios, parents must keep a portfolio of their child’s work on file at home. Portfolios are an excellent way to track student performance and student growth as well as provide valuable information for assessing and grading. In the event you leave MBTA, a new school is likely to ask you to provide a portfolio.

Portfolios Examples of items to include in the portfolio: Assessments Projects (or picture of projects with description) Writing samples Reading samples Math samples (from different strands) Worksheets with rubrics

Portfolios Please include work from all four core subject areas (e.g., language arts, math, science, and social studies). It is also recommended to include work to show your child’s strengths as well as weaknesses.

Student Information Sheet

Student Information Sheet Field Trip Form All families need to complete and submit a student information sheet and field trip form for each child attending MBTA. These can also be found on VC under VIP (Very important papers) You will also be able to fill out the form today while at orientation. Please be sure to submit the completed sheet to me as soon as possible
