BOLOGNA SYSTEM

BOLOGNA DECLARATION Signed by the Ministers of Education of 29 European countries, including Polish and Italian on the 19th of June 1999.

SPECIFIED OBJECTIVES OF BOLOGNA SYSTEM the adoption of a common framework of readable and comparable degrees through the implementation of the Diploma Supplement; the introduction of undergraduate and postgraduate levels in all countries, with first degrees no shorter than 3 years and relevant to the labour market; Introducing compatible credit systems (ECTS) also covering lifelong learning activities; a European dimension in quality assurance, with comparable criteria and methods; the elimination of remaining obstacles to the free mobility of students (as well as trainees and graduates) and teachers (as well as researchers and higher education administrators).

European Credit Transfer System ECTS allows a pass period of study undertaken by the student in a partner institution (university)

European Higher Education Area (EUROPEAN SYSTEM OF HIGHER EDUCATION) LEVEL 1: Undergraduate studies (3 years) end up with the student obtaining a Bachelor’s / Engineering Degree LEVEL 2: Postgraduate studies (2 years) end up with the student obtaining a Master’s Degree LEVEL 3: Postgraduate studies (3 or 4 years) end up with the student obtaining a Doctor’s Degree (doctorate)

BOLOGNA PROCESS As the main objective of the Bologna Process since its inception in 1999, the EHEA was meant to ensure more comparable, compatible and coherent systems of higher education in Europe. Between , all the efforts of the Bologna Process members were targeted to creating the European Higher Education Area, that became reality with the Budapest- Vienna Declaration of March, 2010.Bologna Process

BOLOGNA SYSTEM ADVANTAGES: Individualization of the program of education of a student (changing faculty after graduation form the first degree studies); Gaining 2 diplomas from 2 different faculties in just 5 years; Enables students' mobility and taking up further studies abroad DISADVANTAGES: Students decide to stay abroad, which is disadvantageous for their native country
