8 1950 Robert Schuman: Iron and coal producing countries should work together Teacher Notes: First proposed by French Foreign Minister Robert Schuman as a way to prevent further war between France and Germany.

8 1957 The Treaty of Rome Teacher Notes: The Treaty of Rome allowed the free movement of goods, services, workers and money between the six countries.

1973 International Groupings 8 1973 Britain, Denmark and Ireland joined the EEC Teacher Notes: Britain, Denmark and Ireland joined the EEC in 1973.
