2-Conscience

Conscience Con/science: Con = “with” Science = “knowledge” (Conscience means, “with knowledge”) (An inner voice, thoughts or knowledge that acts as a guide regarding one’s behavior being morally right or wrong) “For when the Gentiles (non-Jews) who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having a law are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their CONSCIENCE also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them…” -Romans 2:14-15

Conscience Evidence for the existence of a moral conscience: 1 - It is almost universally accepted that humans have an instinctive awareness of right and wrong 2 - Basic objective morals are universally accepted and enforced in almost every culture in the world 3 - Those who deny the existence of objective morals intellectually still live as though they exist practically *Objective Morals illustration* *Similarities among world religions are b/c of our God given conscience.

Commandments God’s Commandments are revealed in the Scriptures which contain the “Law & Prophets” LAW: Reveal the High Morals of God Moral Law (10 Commandments) Social Law(Civil guidelines) Ceremonial Law(Worship guidelines) PROPHETS:Reveal the Prophetic Matters of God Prophetic Challenge to the People Predict Events within that Generation Prophesy the coming of Jesus

Commandments “Now we know that whatever the law says it says to those who are under the law, so that: 1 - every mouth may be stopped 2 -and all the world may become guilty Therefore by the deeds of the law no one shall be justified but, 3 - by the law is the knowledge of sin. …for all have sinned & fall short of God’s glory.” -Romans 3:19-20, 23 God’s perfect moral law keeps us from being self-righteous, shows we’ve sinned and reveals our desperate need for a Savior.

4- Christ

Christ “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were still sinners Christ died for us.” –Romans 5:8

Christ BIRTH: Jesus’ birth was predicted in the Old Testament LIFE: Jesus’ life was miraculous & morally perfect DEATH: Jesus’ death was a sacrifice for our sins RESURRECTION: Jesus’ resurrection reveals He is Lord “the wages of sin is death…” (physical, spiritual, eternal) “but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” Romans 6:23

5-Conversion

Conversion “ Repent and be CONVERTED that your sins may be blotted out and that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord.” –Acts 3:19 “Conversion” in the New Testament is when a person has turned away from sin and trusted in Christ. They immediately receive the indwelling Holy Spirit and are saved.

Conversion John 3-Jesus witnesses to Nicodemus: 1- Nic believed in God as Creator 2- Nic knew right and wrong 3- Nic tried hard to obey the Law of God 4- Nic knew Jesus was sent from God *MORAL NICODEMUS WAS STILL NOT SAVED!!! Jesus said, “You must be born again…you must be born of the Spirit or you cannot enter God’s Kingdom.” “If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ he does not belong to God.” –Romans 8:9

Conversion “As many as received Him, to them He gave the power to become children of God, who were born, not of man, or the will of man, but born of God.” –John 1:12 “If anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation, old things have passed away, behold all things have become new.” -2 Corinthians 5:17 “For you have been saved by grace, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God. Not of works so that no one can boast. For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” –Ephesians 2:8-10
