7. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? (Matthew 16:26 ESV) For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil. Our soul is of first value.
We’re going to be judged.
How foolish we are to neglect spiritual things.

8. Why are not all saved? Some refuse to consider the spiritual
Some are in love with sin
Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. [16] For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. [17] And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.

9. ...For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. [19] For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. (Romans 7:18-19 ESV) And as he reasoned about righteousness and self-control and the coming judgment, Felix was alarmed and said, “Go away for the present. When I get an opportunity I will summon you.” (Acts 24:25 ESV)

10. Sometimes we need a defense
…choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. (Hebrews 11:25 ESV) For God will bring every deed into judgment, with every secret thing, whether good or evil. (Ecclesiastes 12:14 ESV) See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. … (1 John 3:1 ESV)
Knowing sin is only “for a season”
Knowing every deed will be judged
Realizing what a love God has for us

 Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.

12. For by grace you have been saved through faith

(Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV) Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them. (Hebrews 7:25 ESV)
It is a gift, not of works of any kind
He can save to the “uttermost” and lives to make intercession

We’re used to “man’s” forgiveness
Some trust in their own goodness

14. So you also, when you have done all that you were commanded, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done what was our duty.’” (Luke 17:10 ESV) Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:2 ESV)
