2 The Gospel What is the gospel? good news = good news about what?

3 “From Genesis to Revelation the Gospel is God’s promise of a Son who will crush the serpents head, forgive the sins of His people, raise them from the dead, and give them ever lasting life solely on the basis of His grace for the sake of Christ.” ~ Michael Horton

4 Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God
is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

5 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures,

6 Ephesians 2:8-10 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, …

7 Repentance = change of heart that results in a change
Our response = conversion = repentance & faith. Repentance = change of heart that results in a change of action = a change in the direction of the soul = from unbelief to belief, from rebellion to submission, from love of sin to hatred of sin … Faith = more than mere mental assent. - knowledge of the gospel - belief that the gospel is true - … … it is the gift of God, not a result of works …

8 knowledge of the facts of the gospel assent that these facts are true
True Saving Faith: knowledge of the facts of the gospel assent that these facts are true AND trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation You become a Christian the moment you trust Jesus alone as your Savior. Most important question = NOT when were you saved, but are you right now trusting Jesus alone? … by grace alone, through faith alone …

9 If so, you are a Christian and you are welcome to join Grace Church.
So, is your testimony that you have turned and trusting in Jesus Christ alone for your salvation, that you have received and are resting in Jesus Christ alone for acceptance with God? If so, you are a Christian and you are welcome to join Grace Church. “I know two things: I am a great sinner and Christ is a great Savior.” – John Newton
