Did you know? Approximately 5,000 unintentional work injury deaths will occur this year. Workers injured on the job lost 75,000,000 days of work last year. On an average day, 18 workers will be killed in accidents and an estimated 137 more will die from occupational disease. Accidents cost the economy over $112 billion every year. Over 6,000,000 workplace injuries and illnesses occur each year. The number of OSHA inspections with initial penalties of $100,000 or more increased 79% last year.

Accidents cost lives. Accidents cost money. Accidents don’t have to happen.

Management Responsibilities for Safety Introduce department specific goals which are understood by employees Safety orientation for each department Corrective action for employees who are not safe Responsible for same day incident investigations and referral to insurance company Monthly safety inspection Adequate resources are budgeted to manage safety program Proactively anticipate budget needs to improve the facility safety, training, and employee awareness Attend safety meetings, participate in safety inspections, provide positive reinforcement for safe behaviors
