Marijuana, also known as cannabis, can be consumed in different ways, whether it is through a joint, pipe, bong or even through edibles like brownies for example. Marijuana leads to red, glossy eyes giving you an increase in appetite, light-headiness and drowsiness and a temporary loss of judgement. There are two different types of marijuana, Cannabis Sativa and cannabis indica. Sativa gives you a type of high that lets you enjoy everything around you, making you happy. Whereas cannabis indica gives you relaxing high, calming everything down in your body, leading you to sleep. One of the reasons why I think marijuana is illegal in almost every place in the world is because since it can treat many known diseases and can most probably cure some of them, the government would lose money on patients, considering they might get better.

Marijuana is known for helping out those who need medical help. Whether the medical help is for nausea, glaucoma or for muscle pains. Prescribed medical marijuana can help cure these issues. It is a known fact that THC which is in marijuana, slows down Alzheimer’s, which is a big issue in today’s society. No matter how it gets into your system, it affects almost every organ in your body, and your nervous system and immune system, too. When you smoke pot, your body absorbs THC right away. (If you eat a baked good or another item, it may take much longer for your body to absorb THC, because it has to break down in your stomach before it enters your bloodstream). You may notice changes in your body right after you smoke. The effects usually stop after 3 or 4 hours. Smoking pot can increase your heart rate by as much as two times for up to 3 hours. That’s why some people have a heart attack right after they use marijuana. It can increase bleeding, lower blood pressure, and affect your blood sugar, too. We don’t yet know if marijuana is linked to higher odds of getting lung cancer. But the process does irritate your lungs -- which is why regular pot smokers are more likely to have an ongoing cough and to have lung-related health problems like chest colds and lung infections.

Medias View The media favors marijuana. Barrack Obama, the current president of the United States has publicly stated that he is not against this drug. More than half of America wants marijuana to be legalized. In movies and TV shows, many characters smoke cannabis and it is portrayed as a drug that is used to relax and have a good time. It is viewed as a safer drug, in comparison to heavier ones like cocaine or LSD. The media used to view stoners as lazy people who listen to Bob Marley, wear tie-die and are bad at personal hygiene. However, with time, these stereotypes have seemed to diminish as it became more mainstream. In fact, as the effects are not as severe, many celebrities such as Rihanna, Zayn Malik and Miley Cyrus have admitted to smoking the drug regularly.

Similarities and Differences There are many similarities between marijuana and alcohol but there are also some differences as well. A similarity between the two is that when you consume alcohol and inhale marijuana, both substances get you intoxicated. They both impair judgment, slow reaction time, affect coordination and motor skills, they increase risk for accidents, changes in behavior and mood. Marijuana and alcohol have different effects on the brain. Marijuana reduces blood flow to the brain, it interferes with the concentration and attention of people. Alcohol may lead to anxiety and depression, depending on the consumption. Marijuana has no effect on the liver but alcohol has major impacts on it leading to sicknesses. Statistics show that alcohol nearly kills people per year and marijuana not a single person.
